Reversing is one of the most dangerous everyday manoeuvres, mainly because of what you can't see — especially young children. Look properly, and when in doubt, get out and check.
Before you reverse
Make sure the way is clear, know your vehicle's blind spots, and check them — if you're in any doubt, get out and look. Above all, check for children: walk around the vehicle first, because young children are unpredictable, move quickly, and are easily hidden, and are killed or injured by reversing vehicles every year. If you're alone with young children and must move the vehicle, the safest place for them is seated in the car with you.
Reversing technique
Don't rely on mirrors, cameras or sensors alone — turn around and look over your shoulder, and reverse in a straight line where you can.
