A one-lane bridge only has room for one direction at a time, so a sign always tells you who gives way. Read it before you drive on.
Who gives way
At a one-lane bridge, traffic in one direction must give way to traffic coming the other way, and every one-lane bridge is signposted to show which. A red-bordered round sign — a small red arrow pointing up and a larger black arrow pointing down — means you must give way to vehicles coming towards you. A blue rectangle with a large white arrow means other vehicles should give way to you — but still slow down and check for vehicles already on the bridge before you drive on. In short: a red circle means you give way; a blue rectangle means others give way to you.
