FAQ

What is the main give way rule in New Zealand?

When turning, give way to all vehicles that are not turning. At intersections you also give way to your right where the rules apply. Signs and signals always take precedence — see the Road Code give-way rules for the full set.

Do I give way to my right or my left?

At uncontrolled intersections New Zealand generally gives way to the right, but the turning rules and any signs/signals come first. Practising the scenarios is the best way to build the right instinct.
