A few road markings are there to give cyclists their own protected space at intersections. Knowing them keeps you out of spots you're not allowed to occupy — and tells you where to expect riders.
Cycle-only lanes
A cycle-only lane is marked by a cycle symbol on the road. You must not stop in it or block it, and you must not enter it approaching an intersection if stationary traffic would leave you blocking it.
Advanced stop boxes
An advanced stop box — a green square with a white cycle symbol at a controlled intersection — gives cyclists a head start on green. Don't drive onto it, and expect riders to come up to the front of the queue.
Hook turns
A cycle hook-turn sign means a hook turn is recommended ahead: riders may cross and stop in front of you in an advanced stop / hook-turn box to wait for the green light.
